calcaneal stress fracture

Stepped on a boot at the bottom of cellar steps on May 9th, twisted foot and fell. Had x-ray the next day that revealed nothing. Was in increasing pain until 10 days ago when I couldn't stand it anymore and called son's orthopedic surgeon. He couldn't find anything on new x-rays but could see I was in alot of pain, then squeezed my heel and I just about passed out. He diagnosed a calcaneal stress fracture and had the nurse slap a rocker boot on me and told me to stay off of my feet. Yeah. I still can't put any pressure on it and it seems that I am still stepping on my heel with this boot. Shouldn't it be wrapped or something. I just don't feel that I have any support. Should I call him? He said that if this wasn't any better in 4 weeks that he would cast it, but I was the last patient that day and he didn't really explain anything.
